Science Centre, voluntary in nature, a founder member of NOSTC (earlier NCSTC) network & organization of NGOs & Govt. department having head quarter in Delhi, was founded in 1987 by some renowned professors, teachers, students and science communicators for incubating scientific temper among people and popularization of science for societal needs. Dr. Satya Ranjan Maity, a Reader of Physics of Midnapore College served the duty of its first President for fulfilling following objectives in the field of interdisciplinary arena.Objectives in brief are elevation of scientific thinking; building scientific temperament and attitude; campaigning against superstitions and protection of environment; encouraging publication of scholastic papers, journal, books etc; sponsoring scholarships for innovative scientific activities and designing innovative but appropriate tools like demonstrative cum measurement based low cost teaching aids for effective science education in schools. The Centre has generated idea of folding lab appropriate for schools specially for schools those had no laboratory. Though Its umbrella of activities is in West Bengal, it targeted neighboring states too . Target group are all section of common people with emphasis on children and teacher educators. The sincere activities of members have made it possible to achieve Jawaharlal Nehru Prize in 2001-02 from ISCA and Meghnad Puroskar -2013 from DST, West Bengal for excellencies. The Centre has signed MOU with Midnapore College(Autonomous), PO-Midnapore-721101 and Raja N L Khan Women’s College, PO-Vidyasagar University, Pin-721102 both in West Bengal for Scientific activities regularly and smoothly.
